How to Create a Pet Adoption Flyer

Each year in the United States, according to the Humane Society, roughly 10 million dogs and cats are sent to animal shelters. Half of them have to be euthanized because of the strain on local government resources. Pet adoptions are a way to help stem this tide and place animals in loving homes, and a number of community organizations hold their own adoption fairs. To attract prospective pet owners to your pet adoption, you can create and print out flyers on your computer to post in public places.

Instructions

    • 1
Plan what information to include on the flyer. Make a list of the details, such as date/time and address, along with the types of animals available to adopt and any other pertinent information.
    • 2
Open a new document in Microsoft Word or another word processing program. (You can also find templates for flyers and posters online.) Type a large, bold headline such as "PET ADOPTION" or "KITTEN ADOPTION TODAY." These words must be large and clear enough to be read at a distance, as they will attract people to the rest of the document.
    • 3
Paste in a picture of one or more animals that are up for adoption, directly below the headline.
    • 4
Underneath the picture, list the basic information, such as the date, address and start/end times of the adoption. List the pets up for adoption, along with such details as their ages.
    • 5
Add information about the cost of adoptions, if relevant. Indicate clearly whether the new owners will have to pay any fees or will be charged for shots and spaying/neutering.
    • 6
Print out a test sheet of your flyer. Make sure it's easy to read and has all the right information. If not, adjust font sizes and alignments to ensure the cleanest presentation possible.
    • 7
Once the flyer is finished, print out as many copies as you need. You can also take the file to a copy and printing store, where you have a large number of flyers printed relatively cheaply (usually between 2 and 10 cents a page).
